Spare a thought for 239 families

The most popular and seemingly plausible theory is Flight MH370 was deliberately flown off course and into the southern Indian Ocean by the pilot or copilot for reasons unknown.

EXCLUSIVE: Today is the day Melia Burrows could never have imagined.

It is now a year since Malaysia Airlines' flight MH370 left Kuala Lumpur for Beijing, and vanished from radar screens less than an hour later.

Melia's parents Rodney and Mary Burrows were among the six Australians on board, and two of 239 people in total.

Despite more than $60 million being spent searching for the Boeing 777, nothing has been found of the aircraft making it modern aviation's greatest mystery.

For Melia, and siblings Karla and Jayden, the last 12-months have been almost indescribably difficult as they wait for information about the flight's fate.

"Things are so much harder, it's like you have a dark cloud over you," says Melia, who spoke to News Corp Australia with sister Karla McMaster.

"Not knowing what information you're going to find out, it make things difficult.

"But we're literally getting by each day. Each day is a new day."

Although there has been no explanation for the plane's disappearance, it is generally accepted the flight was deliberately flown off course, and eventually ditched into the southern Indian Ocean.

Melia says every day she thinks "maybe it will be tomorrow" that they get some answers.

"We're conscious of the fact we've lost our parents but until there's hard evidence we'll always be wondering," she says.

"I think that's just about having a loved one, and not giving up on them."

"There's always a little bit of hope they'll come home," Karla adds.

"Most of the next of kin from the plane feel the same."

On the first anniversary of the aircraft's disappearance, Melia will join Karla and brother Jayden at a morning church service in Brisbane followed by lunch with family and friends of her parents.

She says it will be a celebration of the lives of two wonderful people and the family they created.

"The hardest part is just not having them around," Melia says.

"It's pretty awful for them to be removed from your life with no explanation. It's very difficult."

Malaysia Airlines declined requests for interviews regarding the one-year anniversary since MH370 became a household name.

All a spokeswoman would say, is that they would mark the anniversary with a private service of remembrance for employees and loved ones of colleagues who were on board the flight.

"We feel it more appropriate to observe this occasion in our own private reflection and remembrance," she said.

Helping in some way to ease the pain for the Burrows family, is Karla's baby son who was born just a month after MH370 disappeared.

"He's a reason to smile," says Karla of her bonny baby boy with husband Brendan.

"But it is bittersweet. We'd expected Mum and Dad to play a big part in his life.

"They would've adored him and it's just very sad to know they won't know each other."
