SOUTH AFRICA batsman AB de Villiers has smashed the world record for the fastest hundred in a one-day international, belting a century off just 31 balls against the West Indies on Sunday.
De Villiers beat the previous mark, set by New Zealand's Corey Anderson also against the Windies last summer, by an astounding five deliveries.
The 30-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman ended up with 149 off just 44 deliveries, an innings that truly had to be seen to be believed, as the Proteas innings finished on 2-439.

De Villiers screamed in delight after hammering a six over mid-wicket off the bowling of Jason Holder, one of three sixes he hit in a row as he reached the milestone.
Overall the Proteas superstar blasted 16 sixes and nine fours in a display of batting that left the crowd at the Wanderers in Johannesburg in pure delirium.
He and Hashima Amla - whose superb innings of 153 off 142 balls was completely overshadowed by de Villiers' heroics - reached their 150-run partnership off an astonishing 53 balls, as records tumbled against a powerless Windies bowling attack.

However the one record South Africa looked destined to break - for the highest ever ODI total - somehow eluded the hosts despite needing just eight runs off the final overs to set a new mark.
Amazingly just three runs, plus the wicket of de Villiers, came from the final over, bowled by Andre Russel, who went for 78 runs from his 10 overs.
Two West Indies bowlers - Jason Holder and Jerome Taylor - conceded more than 90 runs but none reached the magical triple figures.
