INDONESIAN police have arrested the eighth and final person over the execution-style murder of Australian businessman Robert Ellis.

Marthen Kada was caught by officers in a dramatic arrest on Sumba Island where he was shot in the foot after they found him hiding in a wardrobe.

Marthen is the alleged ringleader, who made a "pinky promise" with Mr Ellis's Indonesian wife Noor Ellis to carry out the killing for more than $14,000 in October last year.

The 60-year-old had his throat slashed in his exclusive Sanua villa in Bali.

His body was then dumped in a nearby rice paddy.

Loura police chief Sipri Abatan said they caught Marthen at 2am, two days after capturing the seventh suspect in the case — Adolf Malo Rangga — who had been on the run with him in Lewa.

"When arrested, Marthen was hiding in a wardrobe. When police saw his foot, police shot his foot," he said.

Rangga, 34, had given police vital clues on Marthen's whereabouts, which led them to his arrest.

After arresting Marthen, he was taken to hospital for medical treatment on his foot.

"From Lewa, police brought Marthen to Waikabubak hospital in West Sumba Regency to get treatment and take the bullet on his foot", the police chief said.

Rangga is now being held in West Sumba police station, and the pair will be flown back to Bali under police guard on Thursday.

Marthen is the alleged leader of the five executioners who killed Mr Ellis.

Mr Ellis's wife Noor and two housemaids are being held in Kerobokan prison over the crime, where they await trial.

Police handed a brief of evidence over to prosecutors last week alleging Mrs Ellis — feeling aggrieved at her husband of 25 years and battling monetary problems — organised for hitmen to kill her husband in return for 150 million Rupiah or $14,200.

Mrs Ellis originally denied asking the men to kill her husband.

The couple has two children who live in Perth.
