YUP, the stick has hit the fan.
Sure, we've read about the surge of "selfies" for ages — a portrait created of yourself, by yourself, that documents what you are doing right here, right now. Nothing new there.
So for those not au fait with a selfie "stick", pretty simply, it's a small extension designed to latch onto your phone, so you can take that selfie from waaay above the action.
They've been around for a while, but when I came across one recent example of a SS in action, I just had to ask: "Is this the best selfie ever?"
When it comes to using a selfie stick, the hugely popular blogger and Instagrammer, Sydney Fashion Blogger, looks to have totally nailed it.
The exotic Antionette Marie posts from exotic destinations — OK, in this case Sydney's Maroubra beach may be pushing that description — but she is usually draped in sexy clothes and killer jewels in exotic locales, wearing delicious pieces, cossies, delectable diamonds and jewels that look like they are about to casually fall off her amazing frame.
I discovered that, apart from posting sultry pics of herself wearing sexy clothes that leave her followers salivating, she is also a big fan of the stick.
A recent Instagram pic of her "running" on the beach posted to her 714,000 followers drew a diverse array of comments. Good, bad and ugly.
Everything from "apparently the selfie stick makes a great running companion" to "WTF? C'mon girl" to "yes, everyone runs with a GOPRO, aviators and that unsporty bra" to "if only we looked this great when we go for a run".

Aside from being used by professional bloggers, the selfie stick is becoming seriously popular among regular people, and we're seeing lots popping up overhead at sporting events, parties, BBQs, on holidays and just wandering down the street, attached to their owners like puppy dogs.
Selfie Rule 101 says that a "real" selfie should be taken by hand, so to some, the selfie stick is a copout. But while lots of selfies — particularly some celebrity ones that reek of total narcissism — are seen to be plainly self-indulgent, with the rise of the stick, there will be more coming our way. Only this time, they will be higher, longer, wider and more all-encompassing than ever before.
You have been warned. Take our holidaying troika above as a prime example of the coming selfie revolution. Sean Curtis, Tom Coutts and Kristopher Kremer had such a great holiday that they decided to hashtag it with #holdmypole. Gotta love 'em.
TEN REASONS TO LOVE/HATE SELFIE STICKS
• The claw-like, expanding wand can also double a rubbish picker-upperer;
• You can get LOTS more angles than with your usual selfie;
• The stick could, unfortunately, be mistaken as a weapon of mild destruction;
• The stick has already been tagged a narcissist's delight. Read into that what you will;
• Fashion weeks around the world are full of them, so they've gotta be cool. Right?
• The height you get from a selfie stick makes it the perfect gig-going accessory, and you'll be sure to piss everyone off behind you!
• If you really want to get noticed — and possibly laughed out of a party/beach/club/park, go ahead and get one;
• There isn't as much facial obscuring — like a thumb or palm — than with a good old hand-held selfie;
• Take a look at #selfiestick on Instagram. It's going OFF!
• You can pretend you have LOTS of friends if you get a swarm of peeps (who happen to be near you) in a photo with you.
