SICK and tired of the hook-up culture of dating apps but still crave a certain level of intimacy?

Forget Tinder and Grindr - there's a new located-based social-meeting application on the market just for cuddling.

The new app, Cuddlr, has already become a topic of discussion since it was released on September 11.

It "provides a welcome break from hook-up culture, while still making it easy to meet people near you and establish a physical connection."

In an interview with Salon magazine, Cuddlr founder Charlie Wilson said the app started as a joke with their designer Jeff Kulak.

"We talked about it initially as a joke, the name being a play on the common "-r" trope for apps. But then we both quickly decided that there's a real need for this, that we'd both actually use that app if it existed, and that it was technically feasible for us to make it happen," Mr Wilson told the American magazine.

He said for a first-time cuddle it was important to establish a cuddle etiquette by talking about length, location and position.

"It's possible that you'll discover a mismatch here — both people only want to be the little spoon, say — in which case you can compromise or call off the cuddle."
