A THREE-TIME US Olympian middle distance runner has admitted she spent the past year living a double life as a $600-an-hour call girl for one of Las Vegas' top escort agencies.
Suzy Favor Hamilton, a 44-year-old married mother of a seven-year-old girl, said while she found the work "exciting" she now has major regrets over that period of her life.
"I take full responsibility for my mistakes. I'm not the victim and I'm not going that route," Favor Hamilton said, according to a report on The Smoking Gun website.
"I'm owning up to what I did. I would not blame anybody except myself.
"Everybody in this world makes mistakes. I made a huge mistake. Huge."
Favor Hamilton runs her own real estate brokerage with her husband, while also delivering motivational speeches and doing various bits of promotional work.
She considered the escort work as an escape from the routine of normal life and said her husband Mark, 44, was the only person aware of it.
"He tried, he tried to get me to stop. He wasn't supportive of this at all," Favor Hamilton said.
Favor Hamilton took to Twitter today to explain the reasons behind her decision to become a call girl, saying she was battling depression.
"I was drawn to escorting in large part because it provided many coping mechanisms for me when I was going through a very challenging time with my marriage and my life," she wrote.
"It provided an escape from a life that I was struggling in. It was a double life.
"I do not expect people to understand, but the reasons for doing this made sense to me at the time and were very much related to depression.
"I have been seeking the help of a psychologist for the past few weeks and will continue to do so after I have put things together."
According to The Smoking Gun, Favor Hamilton initially tried to deny her work with the escort service when approached by a reporter but later admitted it was true.
She also suspected one of her clients had leaked her story to the press. She went to great lengths to keep her identity hidden - including blurring out her face on all photos on the agency's website - but said she occasionally told customers about her Olympic past if she felt comfortable with them.
"He totally broke all the rules by outing me," Favor Hamilton said of the client, but insisted she would not reveal his identity.
"I don't want to be like him. Because he is scum. And I will not become scum to make myself feel good.
"I will not do it. I would suffer rather than go that route of being vindictive."

Favor Hamilton competed at the 1992, 1996 and 2000 Olympics. She has admitted previously that she deliberately tumbled in the final stretch of the 1500m final at the Sydney Games after losing her lead with 200m to go and realising she could not win.
She also featured in a controversial Nike commercial during the 2000 Olympics, which portrayed her living in a big house when a chainsaw-wielding masked killer appears behind her and attempts to kill her.
Favor Hamilton manages to outrun him thanks to her Nike sneakers, and the ad closes with the message, "Why sport? You'll live longer."
Protestors called for the ad to be pulled, arguing that it made light of violence against women.
Nike argued the ad was inspirational, since it is the woman who defeats the man.
